Letter to President Museveni

Letter to the president

First I thank you for coming out to support the national soccer team and for the financial contribution you made. While you have in the past made similar contributions to the same team, the nation has not had the opportunity to come close to national glory as it did on the 6th of October. Ugandans have never been united in supporting a cause so dearly for a longtime under your tenure than this historic event and this points to a major concern which as a statesman I do hope you will look into.

The nation has won excellence accolades for pacifying regions globally, fighting HIV’AIDS etc but there seems to be slow progress in gaining our place in the world of sports not because we lack the talents or human resource but because of lack of an organized effort to claim our place. Development of Sports especially football affords us an opportunity to expand our national income through returns from export of labour in terms of skilled sportsmen plying their trade in distant lands and remitting returns to national development.

Almost half of the group you met at Namboole on the 5th play in Europe and earn quite a lot which is spent in developing their country. Your government’s investment in developing such talents would mean increased revenue returns for this country. Your Excellency these efforts can be very meaningful with a full sports ministry being created to enable this development. Resources to facilitate this process can be sought from the Private Investments which enabled by your government’s liberalization have contributed towards development of sports but still need a commitment from government’s side.

Mr. President also afford me the opportunity to dispel the misinformation that a player David Obua refused to meet you on your visit to the Cranes camp. The player in question was irked by the fact that he was blocked from presenting his grieviances to you in his capacity as a professional player representing the nation and therefore acting as our ambassador. His actions must have been influenced by this disappointment but not any ulterior motive meant to injure your goodwill and name.

Thank you again for supporting the team and for supporting sports in the nation. While we were not able to make history, Ugandans will never forget your efforts in supporting the team.
